UGAto host animal waste roundtable

University of Georgia

Animal waste can be a valuable organic resource or a pollutant. Managing it right and applying the best technologies determine which it may be.

The University of Georgia invites interested stakeholders to a discussion of issues and opportunities at the Georgia Animal Waste Roundtable Oct. 3 in Athens, Ga.

The program will be held at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. It's presented by UGA Cooperative Extension, the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Agricultural Pollution Prevention Program (P2AD).

Topics include UGA priorities in animal waste, bioenergy from agricultural residuals, regulatory updates, new UGA teaching and research farms, lagoon closure, grazing dairies and air quality.

The roundtable "is a real nice example of collaborative problem-solving," said Thomas Bass, who is coordinating the event. Bass is a UGA Extension specialist in animal and dairy sciences and biological and agricultural engineering.

There is no cost for the event, and lunch is included. It's open to university faculty, federal and state specialists, commodity representatives, consultants and others in waste and nutrient management.

Registration is limited. To attend, register online at the website www.pware.com/2532. E-mail Bass at tmbass@engr.uga.edu for more information, or visit www.agp2.org/ aware.
